What was I thinking? Of course racing is
really expensive. I've had long-standing dreams about racing SCCA events father & son even since I paged through the first
Grassroots Motorsports years ago. Alas. Guess drag (& go-karts?) is still king. Does this article seem accurate to you guys?

I have never heard any hard numbers on this; back before I got my drivers license, people on the Edmunds forums who raced Miatas were never specific about the costs. (Yes, the ignorance and bliss of youth....)
However, I will say this: I don't know what karting costs, but a track lesson on a bike, at a decent school, is about $300 a pop. I don't know what license fees are at tracks, but a useable entry level racebike can be built out of a Ninja 500 or Suzuki GS500 for 3 grand or so (replace suspension and get proper tires).
Yes, I've thought about this. I continue to think about this as the monster 1100 takes shape. That thing would be a complete pig on a track, but I can't help myself...I've already got decent springs in the front end...
