'79 Mercedes: New Dash Console

So this lovely item (out of my $500 car) sells to collectors for $100.00+. The average retail value on my '79 is apparently $9,400, with the mint specimens reaching up to $15K. So out the ashtray comes, and up on eBay it goes!

In its place, I decided to wire in a custom dash accessory panel, complete with fuse, indicator light, and on/off switch.

Wiring the panel in on a mock-up cardboard cut-out.

Deciding to reconfigure it, and add a voltmeter.

Wiring the panel in.

Sweet! I love stuff like that. What are you going to make the panel out of? Aluminum?

I dunno yet -- I have some black plastic scrap that would probably work, and black would go ok as the color in the car (instead of the vintage wood paneling stuff) but I kindof hate working with plastic... smelly, melty, chemicals... So... Aluminum's a good idea!

Uhhh...dudes....

We need to reel in the advert situation here. That last ad on the right side is pretty big and long, and for Santa Barbara Kayaks? !!

Jus' sayin...I don't mind having ads, per se, but there must be some way to restrict ad content to what is appropriate for the blog. And make them less obtrusive.

Nice idea with the switch panel DZ. I'm waiting for car manufacturers to wise up to the fact that all they need to do is install a very simple and light 2.5 mm plug and run it straight to the car audio system, and quit jacking around with radios, 6 disc CD changers (which weigh a TON) and so forth. So outdated in this age of the IPOD...

Hmm, it's the same count as before... All I see now is an ad for Progressive... which seems appropriate...
